Encyclopedia Project Refelction
In this project to present it differently I would have an example of the law of cooling. For example I
would heat up a metal ball and use time decreases to calculate what an actual cooling equation would
look like, so that people could watch it in real time.
My greatest strength is projects and using math in projects, because I am very good at applying math to
real world ideas and issues to create a meaningful project. However, my greatest weakness would be my lack
of testing skills because, regardless of how hard I study I still have trouble on tests. Even though I understand it in
class and on the homework assignments
Reflection:
What learned from this project is that regardless in what way math is valuable for the real world, which is very
important to me because when I am learning I like to know that the hours I am putting in to study something could
matter in a larger time span than six months. next time I would choose a topic that was less in depth, for example,
I would choose, The “History of Logarithms”, rather than, “The History of Logarithms in Forensics Using Newton's
Law of Cooling”. Furthermore the research for my topic was incredibly difficult, because many of the articles I found
were not reliable enough to use for legitimate sources, I could derive some information, but not enough for the articles
to be relevant to my research topic. If I were to improve the encyclopedia I would have there be more images, because
it is very hard to read when it is just multiple pages of work, if the topics could be split up by informative images, that aided
in the understanding of the math forms, the encyclopedia would be much more interactive.

Encyclopedia Project Write Up
1) What have you learned about mathematics through the encyclopedia project?
I learned about the effects that mathematics have on the real world, for example logarithms can
help to find a criminal after a murder crime scene. This sand so many other jobs and ways of life that
we have today would not be possible without mathematics. I also learned a lot about the science within
mathematics, and how much it affected scientists such as Isaac Newton. For example the forensics that
Newton used to develop the law of cooling and the experiments that he used such as using time around
him to watch heat decay on an iron ball; would not be possible without those who developed logarithms
and mathematics.
2) What have you learned about yourself as a student during this project?
I have learned a lot about the way I communicate and organizer information. In addition to the amount
I stress about certain parts of projects that won't necessarily be as hard as I assume they will be. For example
when we were researching I was very stressed about how long it would take me to find reliable sources,
however it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
3) What do you need to do to be prepared for exhibition?
I want to find a visual so that it is simpler for me to explain Newton's law of cooling. For example a diagram
that shows how the energy transfer occurs,a dn its relation to logarithms.

Semester Exam Project
1) What did you think of the last project?
I thought the project was challenging yet rewarding, throughout the process
I learned about persistence and how to use problem solving skills to my advantage
when executing my ridiculous problem. When I was making the problems I had to use
everything I had learned during this semester, to execute the problems. This was very
interesting because I had never fully used everything from the semester in one project.
2) How are you going to study for the exam?
I will look through all of the lessons in my composition book to find all of the lessons,
and then recreate certain ones I have problems with and re write and solve them.
From there I will make sure I have that I all of the problems in my mind, so that I can do
well on the test
3) General reflection about the semester: How did it go, what are your strengths and
weaknesses related to working and understanding the content in Algebra II?
This semesters challenges for me were testing, because I understand the content, however
I really struggle with testing and I get anxiety on the tests, so from now on I think I just need to be
confident. I however think that If I gain the confidence I need I will be able to be sufficiently
excellent on projects and tests.
